My mother and grandmother ingrained in me the importance of caring for others on my path. They taught me how to be nurturing and of service to others. “Our purpose in life is to care for each other in the same way God cares for us,” they taught. For most of my childhood, my mother cared for the sick. She cared for my father, who passed away from sickle cell disease when I was nine years old. She remarried after that and cared for her late husband, who died of cancer. My younger brother was born with cerebral palsy, and this is where my caregiving path began. Born in Miami and raised in the Overtown and Coconut Grove neighborhoods, I attended school in Miami Beach before attending Miami Dade Community College in my 20s. During my time at Miami Dade, life forced me to take a few semesters off to welcome my son into the world and care for my grandmother in the evenings. At the age of 39, I graduated from Barry University with a degree in Health Service Administration before embarking on my career at Miami Children’s Hospital. Now nearing my 50s, I have decided to break out of the corporate shell and start my own home care business. With a lifetime of in-home care experience and a career background in healthcare, who better than to lead a community of caregivers dedicated to God’s mission: care for others with a servant’s heart. I know that deciding on the right caregiver is never an easy decision.
